Sometimes, you may need to adjust the ratio of rice to water.
If you notice some of the rice is still raw when flipping the rice,
you should add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of water and allow 20 to 30 minutes for the second cook time to ensure all the grains are fully cooked.
medium or long grain white rice
water
salt
oil
To a medium pot, add the water, salt and oil.
Using a high heat, bring the water to a boil.
Using a strainer or a colander, rinse the rice with warm water for 1 to 2 minutes.
The water should start out very cloudy and get noticeably clearer, though not completely clear.
Once the water is boiling, add the rinsed rice to the pot.
Wait for the water level to just barely cover the rice, then lower the heat to a low flame.
Cover the pot with a lid, and cook the rice for 15 minutes.
To ensure an even cook, flip the rice in the pot so the rice at the bottom ends up on top.
Cover the pot with a lid, and cook the rice for another 15 minutes.
Serve.
